Summary

VT Markets is a global provider of online trading services, offering individuals and businesses a wide range of instruments for trading in the global financial markets. The company was founded in 2016 in Australia and is a subsidiary of Vantage Global Prime Pty Ltd, which is regulated by several authorities globally, including the top-tier Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

VT Markets is considered safe because it is regulated by the top-tier ASIC as well as Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) of South Africa, and registered under the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Financial Services Authority (SVGFSA) and because clients’ funds are held in a segregated account with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA).

⚠ Risk Warning: CFDs are complex instruments and are usually traded with leverage, which significantly increases the chances of losing money. At the time of the review, 76% of retail investor accounts were losing money when trading CFDs with this provider. It’s your responsibility to understand the inner workings of CFD instruments and understand the underlying risks.

Full Review

We recommend VT Markets for trading various instruments manually or automatically using Expert Advisors. Both intraday and swing traders can take advantage of trading CFDs. Trading instruments offered by the broker are best for short term speculations on the markets and not a great option if you’re considering investing long term.

👍 At VT Markets, you’ll enjoy low trading fees and a fast, simple account opening process. Plus, our email and live chat support are both above average.

👎 VT Markets has a limited product portfolio, covering only CFDs and forex. Additionally, its educational tools could be improved, and there is no investor protection.

Pros
  • Low Trading Fees
  • Easy to Open a new Account
  • Great Customer Service
Cons
  • Limited to CFD and Forex only
  • Lack of Educational Content

Fees

VT Markets has low trading fees in all aspects of trading. Read in detail down below.

Assets Fee Level Fee Terms
S&P 500 CFD Low For every trade made, there is a commission of $1 per lot. The average spread cost during peak trading hours is 0.3 points.
Europe 50 CFD Low For every trade made, there is a commission of $1 per lot. The average spread cost during peak trading hours is 1.2 points.
EURUSD Low Prime accounts get $3 per lot per trade in commissions, with fees built into the spread. On average, during peak trading hours, the spread costs 0.1 pips.
Inactivity FEE None

Let’s first go through the fess terminology:

  • Trading Fees occur when you trade (spreads, commissions, financing rates, and conversions)
  • Financing or overnight rates (SWAPS) are charged when you hold your leveraged positions for more than 24 hours. Leveraged position means that you borrow money from the broker to trade.
  • Non-trading fees are withdrawal fee or inactivity fee, hidden fees.

When it comes to trading Forex and CFDs, there are 3 types of fees. Fees charged directly for entering and exiting trades by spread markups and commissions. Spread markups are usually fixed and in a live trading environment they increase due to low liquidity.

The second class of fees are charged for keeping positions overnight and they’re called swaps. In order to avoid swaps many traders open and close positions within a day and choose Raw ECN accounts. For Swing and position traders Standard STP account is more preferable.

The third type of fees are non-trading fees. Non-trading fees are charged during deposits and withdrawals. In addition, some brokers charge clients with inactivity fees.

To put things in a proper context we compare VT Markets with the competing services, based on product offering, fee structure and customer profile.

Non-trading fees

VT Markets XM Axi
Account fee No No No
Inactivity fee No No No
Withdrawal fee $0 $0 $0

At VT Markets, there are no deposit, inactivity or account fees- making it a great choice for those looking for low non-trading fees. Withdrawing funds is usually free of charge, though you may face a fee if the withdrawal amount is less than 100 units of your account base currency or if you withdraw to an e-wallet.

Trading Fees

Forex and CFD trading is characterized by high leverage. Leverage gives traders the ability to speculate on financial markets using borrowed funds. On the other hand, brokers charge clients for landing the money.

Leverage for each asset type varies. The maximum leverage for trading US Stock CFDs is 20:1. Which means that for every dollar you deposit, you get the buying power of $20. For trading Forex pairs maximum leverage offered is 500:1.

In order to make a fair comparison between various brokers we take a benchmark price. We measure fees for $2,000 and $20,000 orders for stocks & forex respectively, held and sold after 7 days.

Forex Fees

Forex Fees are low in comparison to XM & AxiTrader.

These fees accumulate when traders stay in position longer than 24 hours. The longer a trader stays in the trade, the more swap will be charged.

  VT Markets XM AxiTrader
EUR/USD benchmark fee $6.2  $17.1  $13.8
GBP/USD  benchmark fee $5.1  $13.8  –
AUD/USD benchmark fee $7.2 $13.9 $9.5
EUR/GBP benchmark fee $7.4 $12.2 $11.0

Stock & Index CFD fees

Stock & Index CFD are similar to XM & AxiTrader.

VT Markets XM AxiTrader
Apple CFD benchmark fee $14.6  $3.4  –
Vodafone CFD benchmark fee  $5.6  –
S&P 500 CFD Benchmark $1.1 $2.4 $1.7
Europe 50 CFD Benchmark $1.2 $2.4 $1.2

Financing Rates

These fees occur when you decide to hold your position. The longer you stay in CFD or FOREX trade, the more fees will accumulate, making the final amount rather hefty. VT Markets CFD fees for a $2,000 long position held for one week.

Yearly financing rates on $2,000

VT Markets XM Axi
Apple financing rate $14.6 $3.4 -
Vodafone financing rate - $5.6 -

Trading Instruments

VT Markets has a great selection of forex, stock index CFDs and stock CFDs, but their crypto selection is even better. Furthermore, their commodity CFD selection includes gold and oil indices. However, ETFs, bonds and futures CFDs are missing from the company’s product range.

Deposits at VT Markets are free of charge. In addition to bank transfers, you may fund your account with credit/debit cards, mobile pay, or the following electronic wallets:

  • Neteller
  • Skrill
  • Fasapay
  • UnionPay

You may also deposit using Bitcoin and Tether (the following agreement types are supported: ERC20/TRC20/OMNI).

A bank transfer might take several business days, but credit/debit card payments are quick. You can only deposit funds from accounts in your name. However, the deposit procedure isn’t always smooth; when we tested the RAW ECN account deposit choices, we couldn’t make a deposit since it kept stalling at the online verification step. Keep in mind that VT Markets doesn’t charge its clients for withdrawals and most options are free. However, bank transfer usually costs around $25 and takes longer.

Platform & Trading Experience

The MetaTrader online trading platform is used by VT Markets. It is extremely customisable and provides a clear fee report, but the design is out of date and it lacks a price notification.

VT Markets provides access to MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 trading software. In addition, traders can download mobile versions of these platforms and access web trading platforms online. In order to automate trading, Expert Advisors, as well as ZuluTrade are extremely handy.

These trading software are very famous and highly respected among Forex traders. However, many consider MetaTrader platforms outdated due to very little to none improvements in terms of design.

While MT5 is a mighty platform, it’s worth mentioning that there are better looking Stock CFD trading software available in the markets.

Customer Service

VT Markets may be reached through phone, email, and live chat.

VT Markets provides excellent live chat assistance. It is quick, and we always get helpful replies. We also appreciated that they provided us with an email with a copy of the dialogue.

The phone support from VT Markets was excellent, and the guy we spoke with seemed competent. However, we were unable to reach phone support straight away since we needed to make a callback request and agree on a day before we could speak with them.

Email support is responsive and helpful. We sent three emails and received three useful and relevant responses within a day.

The team of CS is accessible via live chat, email and over the phone. The customer service agents are very friendly and provide useful information in a professional manner. On the downside, the live assistance is only available 24/5.

Overall, it’s safe to say that VT Markets offers great customer support to its existing customers and potential clients.

Research & Education

VT Markets provides easy-to-use research resources such as trading tips, daily market analysis, and an economic calendar. Unfortunately, certain features demand a $1,000 deposit.

Newsfeed

Through Trading Central, VT Markets delivers a news stream. Daily market updates are also available on VT Markets in both video and text format. You may read about current events and get daily economic insights to better comprehend what’s going on in the markets. The general quality of the market updates, in our opinion, was higher in the text form than in the video version.

Regulation & Safety

Clients are not covered by investor protection due to VT Markets’ legislation (Australia and Cayman Islands), just negative balance protection.

Country of client Protection amount Regulator Legal entity
Australia No protection Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) Vantage Global Prime Pty Ltd
All other countries No protection Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) Vantage International Group Limited

The broker is regulated by a number of well established financial institutions and therefore considered safe. The regulatory bodies include: Financial Conduct Authority of the UK, Australian Securities and Investments Commission and Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) of South Africa, and registered under the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Financial Services Authority (SVGFSA).

VT Markets keeps clients’ funds in segregated accounts and provides negative balance protection. Trading CFDs is a highly leveraged activity and as a result there’s a chance traders will lose more money than it’s on their balance. To counter this, VT Markets offers Stop Out levels. Even if the automatic stop out fails and balance becomes negative, traders can contact the customer support and the balance will be changed from negative to 0.

In a nutshell

Trading costs with VT Markets are cheap, and the account opening process is quick and simple. Customer service is excellent.

The product offerings, on the other hand, is limited to forex and CFDs. Some specialty products, like bond CFDs and futures, that are provided by comparable brokers are also absent from VT Markets. What’s more, you can only access the Trading Central research suite if you have at least $1,000 in your account.

Overall, VT Markets is a well regulated, competitive broker offering MetaTrader platforms and various trading instruments to its clients.
